The trial of Macau’s former junket king Alvin Chau Cheok Wa may be held as early as next month after he was formally indicted on Thursday (26 May) by the Public Prosecutions Office on charges of illegal gaming, criminal association, fraud, and money laundering, according to informed sources.
Chau, who is the former boss of casino junket Suncity Group, has been in pre-trial detention since his arrest in November last year.
The four charges against Chau carry a combined sentence of eight to 15 years.
It has been reported that 20 other people, most of whom are associates of Chau, have been indicted under the same criminal case.
Levo Chan Weng Lin, boss of junket operator Tak Chun, is yet to be indicted after his arrest in January on suspicion of illegal gaming.
