The owner of a gaming VIP room in Macao has been arrested for allegedly offering bribes, including cash and free hotel rooms, to a senior sergeant from the Traffic Department of the Public Security Police in exchange for confidential police data, according to a statement released by the Commission Against Corruption on Monday (7 March).
The police officer involved in the case has been suspended from duty and is under investigation for bribe-taking and abuse of power, a statement released by the Public Security Police revealed.
According to informed sources, the unnamed police officer entered the police force back in 2001.
The two suspects have been released on bail pending trial.
Meanwhile the Public Security Police said it was highly concerned about this case and would review its database management to block any loopholes and prevent any future leak of confidential information.
