Local junket operators’ aggregate rolling chip turnover and revenues saw increases of 9.1% and 9% respectively last month. According to informed industry sources, the aggregate rolling chip turnover of local junket operators hit MOP48.56 billion while total profits stood at MOP1.8 billion in February, which coincided with the first Chinese New Year holiday since the coronavirus pandemic.
Informed industry sources also told Allin Media that both Suncity and Tak Chun saw their rolling chip turnover breaking the MOP10 billion mark in February, with Tak Chun performing strongly and trailing closely behind the market leader, Suncity.
Despite the strong growth momentum in the VIP market, however, Macau’s overall gaming revenues fell by 8.9% month-on-month to MOP7.31 billion in February as the mainland Chinese government advised people to stay home during the Chinese New Year holiday to prevent a repeat of the coronavirus outbreak.
February’s strong growth in the VIP market was mainly led by Suncity and Tak Chun. The other junket operators, including HengSheng which had performed strongly in the previous two months, all recorded a fall in their rolling chip turnover.
