Despite an increase of 2.63% in Macau’s gaming receipts in January, the city’s VIP rolling chip turnover in January fell by 11% over the previous month, according to figures provided to Allin Media by industry insiders.
The latest data seen by Allin Media show that Macau’s total VIP rolling chip turnover stood at 44.5 billion patacas in the first month of 2021, representing a drop of 11% over the previous month. However, the profits of junket operators gained from rolling chips increased by 10% to 1.65 billion patacas in the same month.
The top three junket operators with the largest market share in January were：Suncity Group, Tak Chun Group and Guangdong Group. But all three saw a drop in rolling chip turnover, with Guangdong Group seeing the biggest decrease. As a result, only Suncity Group remained in the 「10 Billion Club」, a title referring to junket operators that boast monthly rolling chip turnover of more than 10 billion patacas.
Meanwhile the HengSheng Group, which performed strongly in December, kept its growing momentum in rolling chip turnover in January, and was now close behind Golden Group in total chip turnover.
The fall in total VIP rolling chip turnover was largely due to the rebound of the Covid-19 epidemic in mainland China.
