Hong Kong police have dealt another blow to illegal gambling following a targeted raid in Sham Shui Po. Acting on intelligence and extensive investigation, the Sham Shui Po District Special Duty Squad launched a surprise operation yesterday afternoon (September 2), searching a residential unit at 88 Cheung Sha Wan Road. Officers successfully dismantled an illegal fish-machine gambling den concealed inside the building, seizing six fish arcade machines, various gambling paraphernalia, and a small amount of cash.
Eight individuals aged between 25 and 56 were arrested during the operation. A 45-year-old local man named Lee was taken into custody on suspicion of “managing a gambling establishment.” The remaining seven suspects, comprising three local men, three local women, and one mainland Chinese woman, were arrested on suspicion of “gambling in a gambling establishment.” Additionally, one of the local female suspects, named Yeung, was further charged with “failing to produce proof of identity” after she was unable to present valid documentation. All individuals are currently being detained for further investigation.
