The Chinese Embassy in the Philippines announced on Thursday (5 December) that the law enforcement agencies of China and the Philippines have once again collaborated to repatriate nearly 200 Chinese nationals involved in offshore gambling in the Philippines.
The announcement further stated that this latest collaboration between the two countries’ law enforcement agencies marked another significant step forward in their joint efforts since the Philippine government declared a comprehensive ban on offshore gambling. It underscores the shared determination of China and the Philippines to combat offshore gambling and create a safer environment for the people of both nations.
Last month, Philippine President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. issued an order banning offshore online gambling operations in the country and established a task force to oversee matters such as the repatriation of foreign workers in the industry.
Since the Philippines’ announcement in late July of a total ban on offshore online gambling, the last cooperation between Chinese and Philippine law enforcement to repatriate Chinese nationals engaged in offshore gambling occurred in early September.
