eju Dream Tower, an integrated resort owned by South Korea’s Lotte Tour Limited, has allegedly recruited about a hundred Chinese employees, most of whom are Macau citizens, to engage in telemarketing targeting mainland Chinese gamblers, according to an investigation by Allin Media’s correspondent in South Korea.
This act may constitute a breach of mainland China’s new criminal law, which was amended in 2021 to combat illicit gambling, including organizing mainland Chinese citizens to gamble outside the borders of China. The crime is subject to a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
Since the new law came into effect, many gaming junkets in Macau have been affected.
