Macau’s casinos net a total of 15.5 billion patacas in gaming revenues in May, representing a slight increase of 5.7% month-on-month. Despite the increase, gaming analysts were disappointed by the performance as the month of May used to see a surge in gaming revenues, thanks to the Labour Day golden week holiday.
Macau saw a total of 2.21 million visitor arrivals in May, down by 2.6% compared with the previous month. This came as a surprise to many industry analysts, who were all expecting a strong performance since this was the first golden week holiday after pandemic travel restrictions were lifted between Macau and the Chinese mainland. The figure was 1.1 million less than in May 2019.
Galaxy Entertainment Group’s flagship casino recorded 1.6 billion patacas in gaming revenues in the mass market alone in May, topping the league among Macau’s six gaming operators. The casino at the Venetian came in second with 1.2 billion patacas while the casino at City of Dreams came in third with 100 million patacas.
Many big events were held in May in a bid to cash in on the peak holiday season, including a two-day concert by world famous girls’ group BLACKPINK at the Galaxy Arena. These events did attract many visitors and celebrities from the
