Macau’s gross gaming revenues grew by 29.2% month-on-month in July, to about MOP8.44 billion, the second highest monthly figure in 2021.
The July figure was more than a five-fold increase compared with the same period of last year, according to data released by the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau.
Local casino revenues quickly rebounded in July after a drop in revenues in the previous month due to tighter travel restrictions in the wake of a new wave of Covid-19 infections in neighbouring Guangdong province.
The restrictions were gradually eased in late June.
Macau’s total gross gaming revenues in the first seven months of 2021 stood at MOP57.47 billion, a year-on-year increase of 63.9%.
Looking forward, industry analysts believe that Macau’s gross gaming revenues in August will be negatively affected once more by the emergence of new Covid-19 cases throughout the Chinese mainland.
