All six gaming operators in Macau have thrown their weight behind the government’s Covid-19 vaccination scheme in a bid to achieve community immunity. Many casinos are giving their staffs extra paid leave for taking the vaccine shots and some are even handing out cash prizes to encourage more employees to get the shots.
Outreach vaccine services are being provided at various casinos and health workers are invited to give talks on the Covid-19 vaccines for gaming employees. These efforts have begun to pay off as the number of gaming workers who have registered for vaccinations are picking up.
According to Sands China, 2,300 employees had registered to take the Covid-19 shots as at 1 June. Outreach vaccination services were provided at the Venetian Expo Centre from 31 May to 3 June for employees of Sands China.
Meanwhile Galaxy Entertainment has also invited health workers to come to its flagship resort in Cotai to give vaccine shots to its staffs from 10 to 12 June. It is estimated that the three-day outreach service will help 1,500 to 1,800 Galaxy employees and their family members get vaccinated.
As another wave of community outbreaks of Covid-19 has hit neighbouring Guangzhou and Foshan, the Macau government is once again stepping up efforts to promote vaccinations. In light of the latest outbreak in neighbouring cities, many people in Macau who are first hesitant about getting the vaccines are now opting for the shots.
